Dr. Goldberg

Dr. Tyler Goldberg

A native Texan, Dr. Goldberg graduated from Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He subsequently completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic residency training at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga. He completed his fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at the University of Utah under Dr. Aaron A. Hofmann.

After three years in clinical practice, Dr. Goldberg became dissatisfied with his patient outcomes and embarked on further sub-specialization in anterior approach total hip replacement. In 2007, he trained with Joel Matta in Los Angeles. Subsequently, he traveled to the Balgrist Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland, to train under Drs. Claudio Dora and Fabian Kalberer. He then finished training in Paris under Frederic Laude, MD.

Clinical Practice & Specialties

Dr. Goldberg is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult hip and knee reconstruction. Surgically, Dr. Goldberg focuses on:

  • Anterior approach Total Hip Replacement (primary and revision)
  • Hip preservation & arthroscopy
  • Total Knee Replacement (primary and revision)
  • Partial Knee replacement
  • Knee arthroscopy

Dr. Goldberg was fortunate to perform his fellowship under Dr. Hofmann, an early pioneer in Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery (CAOS). Consequently, Dr. Goldberg was uniquely positioned to participate in design teams for surgery navigation systems, robotic surgical techniques, and patient-specific instrumentation. He has co-developed multiple implants for both hip and knee replacements used worldwide.

An avid researcher and educator, Dr. Goldberg has published numerous medical literature articles, presented at many national and international meetings, and performed live surgical demonstrations for individual surgeons and conferences.

Currently, Dr. Goldberg is working on education platforms to teach surgeons remotely via virtual reality, specifically anterior approach surgery on the hip. He is extending that virtual platform to the knee by developing an intra-operative Augmented Reality technique to perform knee replacement. Augmented reality, in short, will allow the surgeon to assess knee function after surgery before the surgical cuts are even completed. This technique will enable the surgeon to completely customize each knee replacement for a patient and give instant feedback about the accuracy of the procedure.

Dr. Goldberg practiced at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic from 2004 – 2007. He then relocated to Texas Orthopedics, LLC from 2007 – 2021. In November 2021, Dr. Goldberg co-founded Austin Orthopedic Institute to focus on patient experience with their orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Goldberg is a native Texan and enjoys discovering outdoor opportunities for recreation that Texas can provide. He is a passionate traveler and hiker – hiking on 6 of 7 continents and traveling to over 30 countries. In addition, he enjoys spending time with family, reading, music, and golf.

Experience matters… and Dr. Goldberg has it.

Dr. Goldberg maintains a thoughtful, conservative, and individualistic approach to caring for patients. He recognizes that not all patients have the same desires, patience with nagging discomfort, anxiety about surgery, or functional limitations. Consequently, what works well for one patient may not remotely be acceptable to another. Thus, Dr. Goldberg and his team individualize treatment algorithms for each patient.

However, when surgery is required, Dr. Goldberg believes he must operate aggressively – meaning he will do everything in his experience to achieve the patient’s desired result. Surgical wisdom takes years and thousands of cases to develop. Dr. Goldberg has over 25 years of experience and over 9,850 surgical cases, not including the thousands of cases logged as a trainee.

Dr. G treated me at Tx Ortho, but left to join Austin Ortho. I should have followed him then, but didn’t… and that was a mistake. The other docs at Tx Ortho were good but their system became unbearable. I was no longer able to do everything in a single visit. Separate appointments for x-rays, MRIs, examinations… And those were only with the PA. They couldn’t schedule me within six weeks to simply drain my Baker cyst. Fortunately, I found Dr. G and the world is good again. Austin Ortho runs their doc business the way it *should* be run. I recommend them to anyone who needs that type of care.

From the first contact for an appointment to the six week check up, Dr. Tyler Goldberg and his staff have been the role models in how orthopedic surgery should be. My hip replacement was perfect and each step of the process was a positive experience. I highly recommend Dr. Goldberg if you need an orthopedic surgeon

I came to Austin to train with Dr. Goldberg at St. David’s Surgical Hospital for my fellowship. It was a fantastic experience. I learned so much and cannot say enough good things about how Dr. Goldberg and his team take care of patients. He still is a great mentor.
